Promoting Effective 21st Century Educational Technologies for Connecticut
    Presenters at the CECA Annual Conference come from among the many educators in Connecticut and beyond who successfully integrate technology into the educational process in order to improve student learning.

    The Board of Directors of the Connecticut Educators Computer Association invites such experienced educators to submit an application to present at the 2008 CECA Conference.

    Conference Theme

    Application includes:
      • Part 1: Individual Presenter and Co-Presenter Details
      • Part 2: Presentation Details
      • Part 3: Presentation Abstract

    CECA Vision Statement
    Promoting Effective 21st Century Educational Technologies for Connecticut

        The presentation must clearly support the CECA Vision Statement.


    Presenters and Co-Presenters
    • Individual presenters or small groups of co-presenters may apply.
    • One presenter or co-presenter per presentation will be given a complimentary conference registration and membership in CECA.
    • Additional co-presenters will pay regular conference registration fees.
    • All presenters and co-presenters will complete an online form giving basic contact information.


    Conference Strands
    Each presentation must fit into one of the four conference strands:
      • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
      • New Literacy (tech skills, reading for info, critical thinking, reading in the content area, higher level thinking skills)
      • Web 2.0 (collaboration and communication; social networking)
      • Using and Managing Data (data collection and analysis, curriculum mapping, formative and summative assessment)
      • Managing Infrastructure (Web Page Development and Applications, Network, Open Source, Safety and Security, Support and Maintenance)

    Connecticut Information and Technology Literacy Framework
    Each presentation must address at least one of the Connecticut Information and Technology Literacy Framework standards.


    The framework may be found at the Connecticut State Department of Education website.


    Types of Presentation Sessions
    A new variety of presentation session formats may be available this year.

    Session formats include:
      • One-hour Standard Presentation
        • A 60-minute standard presentation on a topic associated with one of the major threads of the conference

      • One-hour Interactive Hands On session (Participants using own Laptop)
        • A 60-minute hands-on presentation on a topic associated with one of the major threads of the conference

      • Hot Topic Lounge
        • Interactive mini-sessions, ongoing, and available for set periods of time ranging from 1 to 2 hours - Brief in depth topics on teaching and doing specific activities to enhance participants' technology repertoire

      • Poster Presentation
        • A display and brief explanation of innovative projects and curriculum ideas in an informal format that lends itself to discuss and interaction

    Presentation Abstract
    A description of the presentation (less than 150 words) will be required in part 3 of the application. It will be used in the online conference brochure and should give enough detail to assist attendees in making workshop selections.


    Presentation Materials
    Handouts, links to sites related to the presentation, visuals, and other presentation materials will be requested in digital format one month prior to the conference. These materials will be made available to attendees and others via the CECA website and included in an online CECA Conference Archive.


    Presentation Rooms
    CECA will provide the following in each standard presentation room:

      • projector and screen
      • microphone and built-in speakers
      • wireless Internet access
      • podium, table, and chairs

    Presenters must provide their own laptop with wireless access card (if needed).


    Timeline
    April 2008
      Presenter Committee will review applications.
    May 2008
      Presenter Committee will notify applicants of acceptance status.
      Confirmation email will be sent to presenters.
    September 2008
      Conference details, schedules, and final information will be sent by email to presenters.
    October 21, 2008
      CECA Conference.
